State-owned power utility, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), has deployed an integrated video surveillance solution in its hydropower plants to achieve round-the-clock surveillance.
EGAT monitors and surveys 14 dams across the country, with each site sometimes requiring more than 200 video cameras. Since the lack of a unified video surveillance system may lead to longer response times, leading to floods and potential loss of lives, the utility company has leveraged Milestone Systems' XProtect video management solution to manage and integrate its existing cameras in its six hydropower plants.
The solution is based on an open platform architecture that allows users to customise their surveillance systems and integrate other business applications and security solution, such as access control and video analytics.
Kriangsak Chinwong, system analyst and head of control equipment of EGAT in North-eastern region, said the solution has helped them reduce manpower costs by 35 percent, "enhance the security of its premises and ensure the safety of all employees."
Moving forward, EGAT will add other features to the surveillance solution such as License Plate Recognition, a software that reads license plate information of vehicles, and Access Control to improve its surveillance capabilities.
"We plan to [leverage] Milestone's open platform to integrate with other systems. A high-quality security system with stable, scalable and flexible features helps us to put safety at the heart of our business," said Chinwong.
