Consumers in Singapore can now practise self-care with the MyDoc mobile app.
The app allows consumers to chat with certified doctors and pharmacists from Guardian Health & Beauty over the internet and get advice on general health concerns from them. A Guardian pharmacist will be able to answer basic health questions and talk about specific medications or pharmaceutical products, while physicians will be on hand to make diagnosis.
According to Dr Snehal Patel, MyDoc's co-founder and CEO, the app "empowers Guardian customers to effectively manage their health and wellness needs through communication with an expanded network of qualified Guardian pharmacists." It also "simplifies access and delivery of healthcare solutions for both patients and doctors."
Commenting on the app, 27-year-old Denise Chan, a Guardian-MyDoc user and manager at a local technology company, said: "Before this [app was available], I would have needed to visit a clinic for simple ailments, which took up time. Otherwise, I would go online to research, which could be confusing because of the amount of information out there. Guardian on MyDoc has made it easier for me to get trusted medical advice at any time."
The Ministry of Health recently revealed that Singapore has been experiencing a high bed occupancy rate at hospitals due to its ageing population and unnecessary visits to the accident & emergency (A&E) rooms. This bed crunch situation can be alleviated with MyDoc as it enables consumers to get self-care solutions if they are not critically ill.
MyDoc and Guardian also shared that they do not believe that age will be a barrier when it comes to adopting the app. Accenture's recent Silver Surfers Research found that 84 percent of seniors in Singapore want digital options for accessing their health services from home. Moreover, 13 percent of Guardian users on MyDoc so far are aged 45 and above.
