The National ICT Industry Association of Malaysia, PIKOM, is leading a 60-strong delegation to support the 21st World Congress of Information Technology (WCIT) and the annual ASOCIO ICT Summit, which is to be held in Taiwan this September.
The gathering, which is expecting more than 3,000 c-level delegates from 80 countries, will focus on digital opportunities arising from the growth of digital disruption, said ASOCIO chairman, David Wong Nan Fay, who has also previously held the chair of PIKOM chairman.
Themed 'Fulfilling the Promise of the Digital Age: Building and Sharing the Digital Dream,' Wong also said the summit "presents a rare opportunity for Malaysian delegates to learn emerging market trends and technologies and also network with the who's who in the global ICT industry."
"The Summit offers a platform for the government and industry representatives to share knowledge and experience; develop closer business ties and more importantly identify new business opportunities," he said.
Wong added the business matching and site-visits scheduled to take place include trips to the companies Tatung and Syscom Group to explore opportunities in the Smart Internet of Things and Robotics industries.
He said the summit will present many opportunities for Malaysian delegates to learn and prepare. In October 2014, Dato' Yasmin Mahmood, who is chief executive officer of the national ICT agency Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), said Kuala Lumpur, which hosted WCIT in 2008, will once again welcome the global gathering in 2020.
The signing ceremony between MDEC and PIKOM was held in October 2014 during the 26th MSC Malaysia Implementation Council Meeting (ICM) in Putrajaya and witnessed by the prime minister of Malaysia, Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak.
"We are honoured to once again host the WCIT in 2020 with PIKOM," MDEC's chief executive officer Dato' Yasmin Mahmood had commented at the signing. "This is a testament to MSC Malaysia's long term vision and strategy to not only raise the bar in the local ICT industry but also reinforce our mission to realise Malaysia as a global hub for ICT. The WCIT 2020 will undoubtedly make Malaysia the world's focal point for dialogue, policy action and entrepreneurship on global developments related to the ICT industry and digital economy." WCIT is organised by the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) and Information Service Industry Association of Taiwan (CISA) who is also the co-organiser of the ASOCIO ICT Summit. PIKOM is a member of ASOCIO and WITSA. (Also, see - Three Malaysians hold top WITSA posts)
New research on the way
ASOCIO will also launch its inaugural research report titled: Reimagining the Digital Era during the summit, said Wong. "In this research report, we will be sharing the digital transformation plans of economies in Asia Pacific, key strategies as well as the importance of digital initiative in the region."
"Asia Pacific has the potential to be a leader in the digital economy and a true digital revolution will transform the region's ICT sector in the near future," he said.
Seats are still available, on a first-come-first-serve basis, for those interested to be part of the Malaysian delegation. PIKOM is offering attractive travel packages which include access to all ASOCIO ICT Summit and WCIT conferences; complimentary meals and a cultural and trade visit to Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan.
